Go College, Go America!

9 Oct

Welcome to the 2012 Presidential Election Blog of MixedupMind! This blog will be fueled by “firsts.” As someone who has never taken interest in politics, following this year’s election will be a first for me. Along with following the election, this will be my first time voting in a Presidential election and first time blogging. My goal is to educate as well as learn with my followers as I post to this Election blog. The topic of this blog will be higher education, its’ price, and how colleges and universities across America will be impacted by the outcome of the presidential election. Higher education is defined as learning beyond secondary education in institutions such as colleges, universities, community colleges, and professional schools at which degrees are awarded to those who complete the curriculum. My position on higher education in this election is for it to be an opportunity available to all and the federal government should assist those not able to cover the cost of college on their own. A college education is necessary in today’s society. At this point in time, the Presidential candidate I support is Barack Obama because of his student loan reforms and determination to provide all who desire higher education with that opportunity. While I support Obama at this time, this blog will not be solely focused on his policies but open to all arguments and opinions as to whether or not a college education should be made an equal opportunity for all. Go College, Go America!

For being a new blogger, you are doing a very good job at presenting your focus. I have to say, I agree with you in the sense that I too – at the moment – support the views of President Obama. I feel that education should be available to all people. One suggestion I have, so that your blog does not come off as biased, is to also include the views of Presidential candidate Mitt Romney and where his party stands on the views of education. Other than that, happy blogging 🙂

What is it about Romney’s higher education solutions that don’t work in your opinion?

Why is college necessary in today’s society? Instead is a degree necessary to be successful in today’s society?

College is necessary in today’s society because of the job market. Unemployment rates have been at all time highs in recent years making the job market extremely competitive. Many industries have gone through cut backs, only keeping those employees necessary. Many of these “necessary” employees are those with college degrees. Employers in today’s job market are looking for educated, knowledgeable, well-rounded employees. In order for someone to compete in today’s job market and be successful, a college degree is necessary.
